Monday, May 19, 2008 harrowing experience
It was yet another ordinary day for me, and Mitchell, Noel, Joshua, Jong Fei and I wanted to watch Ironman at Vivo. We did. We all met at Challenger, and played Fifa Street 3. At the meantime, I bought tickets. And after buying those tickets, we proceeded to Burger King for dinner. It took us quite a while before we finally settled down. It only took us a mere 15 minutes to finish our food, then came the fateful incident. When we arrived at Golden Village after a long stroll, a terrifying thought crossed my mind... I had left the five movie tickets on the table we had our food. OH DEAR! The distance between Burger King and GV isn't short. And we have already spent more than five minutes walking... will the movie tickets still be kept intact? But the most unfortunate thing happened. I sprinted back there, and to my utter dismay and disbelief, the tickets were there no longer. There were Caucasians occupying the seats we were sitting on, and of course, they didn't see it. I randomly approached a cleaner, who, unfortunately, cannot understand English, let alone speak it. I had to converse in Chinese, which I am, shamefully, not that good at. Thankfully, he was the one who cleared our trays. However, he claimed that he didn't see any movie tickets. He pointed out the dustbin, and pulled out the trash bag, requesting me to dig for it. Without any hesitation, I dug and dug and dug. After all, all I wanted were the tickets, which in all, costed $50. They would all demand me to refund them their money if I do not manage to search for the tickets successfully. I endured all the embarrassment. People looking at me, while some offered advice. Undoubtedly, I was the laughing stock. There were yucky fries, wet papers, unfinished burgers and pastry, and gross tomato and chilli sauces. Disgusting, but I still wouldn't give up hope. Then, Mitchell and the rest came, and offered a little bit of help. I then prayed for divine intervention, and there were some signs. The cleaner then returned and asked me to follow him to the rubbish dump. It was located at Basement 2. He emptied the trash bag, and allowed me to hunt for it. I withstood all the pungent stench, and finally gave up. Joshua called me, and I held the phone with the dirtiest of hands. I told him I'd return to the cinema. But before that, I washed my hands, and took 2 minutes to do so. I then told the cashier my plight. I even told him who had served me, the time I bought the tickets, and the seats we were allocated. How incredible! He then asked me to hold on. And probably the most fortunate thing happened. We were then told to proceeded straight to GV Max. And although we all had already missed more than 25 minutes of the show, we managed to catch the climax. The movie was good. I would not mind watching it again. A lot of crazy random stuff happened while we were our way home... Today will probably never be forgotten, or at the very least, be remembered for the next few years to come. But it was a good experience anyway. Lesson learnt, and that is, not being so panicky when you're in a very tensed circumstamce when actually, you already have another way out. There are doors opened for you, but you are too stressed out to realise it. Just relax and stay composed for a bit, and you will eventually begin to focus on the right side of the situation, and thus, you might find your way out of these sticky situations.
